Unused Aircraft Energy HARVESTing for wireless Structural Health Monitoring
The final demonstration of the technologies developed within HARVEST project was just performed successfully with a fully integrated demonstrator.
AIRTIFICIAL manufactured the final project demonstrator, representative of a wing leading edge, designed by SONACA.
It includes a Thermo Electrical Generator (TEG: device that generate electricity for thermal gradient) developed by UOI, with 3R (Reprocessable, Repairable and Recyclable) epoxy resin developed by CIDETEC.
SONACA installed its electrical Ice Protection System on the demonstrator in order to generate aircraft representative temperatures.
During the tests performed by SONACA and UOI, the thermal gradient applied on the demonstrator allowed the TEG to generate electricity.
An electronic board developed by TELETEL was plugged to the demonstrator in order to HARVEST and accumulate the electrical power and activate a wireless SHM device.
The wireless functionality added allows to make the integration easier and to ensure low weight impact by avoiding the need of extra cabling.
This project demonstrated the opportunity to integrate SHM technology to structural composite with low weight impact-In this case: SHM technology for heating systems.
