The second edition of the international Summer School on fatigue and damage mechanics of composites

The second edition of the international Summer School on fatigue and damage mechanics of composites was held in Vicenza (Italy) from the 15th to the 19th of July 2019, at the Department of Management and Engineering (DTG), in the Vicenza campus of the University of Padova.

The School, organized by the Composite Group at DTG and coordinated by prof. Marino Quaresimin, received the patronage of ESCM (the European Society for Composite Materials), AIAS (the Italian Society for Mechanical Design), Assocompositi (the Italian Association of Composite Industries) and IGF (the Italian Group of Fracture). The event was indeed very successful, with the enthusiastic participation of more than 80 PhD students and young researchers from all over the world. Twenty countries were in fact represented, Belgium, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Poland, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, Turkey, UK, USA.

During the five-day program, leading senior researchers and industry representatives provided lectures on experimental techniques for damage investigations, damage evolution under fatigue loadings, analytical and numerical modeling of damage, structural health monitoring and examples of design against damage in advanced industrial applications in the field of automotive, aerospace and wind energy. Lectures were delivered by Marino Quaresimin, Michele Zappaolorto, Paolo A. Carraro and Lucio Maragoni (University of Padova), Ramesh Talreja (Texas A&M University), Elif Ahci (Airbus Helicopters), Yongxin Huang (Envision Energy), Thomas Kruse (Airbus Operations) and Luca Vescovi (Dallara Automobili).

During the sessions dedicated to structural health monitoring, the activities planned in the framework of the Harvest project were illustrated to the participants and they were provided with the key data of the project.
